Organize a Breville espresso station by machine architecture. A Bambino or Bambino Plus needs a separate grinder and a clear transfer bridge between grinder and machine. A Barista Express, Barista Pro or Barista Touch puts the grinder inside the main body, so the surrounding counter should prioritize the scale, milk pitcher, cup landing and cleanup return.
Confirm the exact model and its included accessories before buying storage. “Breville setup” is not one footprint, and a rack designed around one 54 mm workflow can still block another machine's tank, hopper or steam side.
The general espresso station organization guide defines the prep, brewing and cleanup system; this page adapts that system to Breville's different machine architectures.
Choose the correct layout family
| Machine family | Main organization problem | First space to protect |
|---|---|---|
| Bambino / Bambino Plus | Separate grinder, dosing and transfer | Bridge between grinder and machine |
| Barista Express / Pro / Touch | Fixed grinder outlet and integrated body | Clear space below outlet and around steam side |
| Dual Boiler or other machine-only models | Separate grinder plus larger machine actions | Full machine access and grinder-to-portafilter route |
| Assisted-tamping or automated Breville models | Fewer loose prep steps, different built-in motions | Exact manual-defined loading, milk and cleaning access |
This guide develops the first two common home patterns. For exact body dimensions and cabinet fit, use the separate Coffee Bar Cabinet for Breville Machines guide.
Inventory the box before buying organizers
Open the official product page and manual for the model code on the machine. Put every supplied piece on the counter. The current U.S. Bambino Plus page, for example, lists a milk jug, tamper, dosing tool, baskets and cleaning pieces among the included accessories.
Sort them by use:
- every normal drink: working basket, portafilter, tamper, milk jug if used;
- recipe-dependent: alternate basket, dosing tool, selected distribution tool;
- maintenance: cleaning disc/tool and related supplies;
- backup or upgrade: duplicates that should not receive counter space yet.
Complete several drinks with the supplied kit. Add a funnel, WDT tool or replacement tamper only when it solves an observed part of the recipe. This keeps accessory shopping from creating the storage problem it is supposed to solve.
Bambino layout: build a grinder-to-machine bridge
The compact Bambino body is only one part of the station. The grinder needs a stable home, beans must be weighed or loaded, grounds must reach the portafilter, and tamping needs support. Treat the machine and grinder as two endpoints with a preparation bridge between them.

A separate grinder and machine need a working bridge, not just enough width for two appliance bodies. Customer photo shared with permission; the pictured equipment is not identified as a specific Breville model.
For a right-handed routine, one workable order is:
beans and scale → grinder → dosing/funnel → tamping support → Bambino → milk side → cleanup return
Reverse it when handedness, steam-wand position or the sink route favors the other direction. The principle is that the filled portafilter should not cross the finished-cup landing or wet cleanup tray.
Give the grinder its own boundaries
Leave room to fill or remove its hopper or dosing cup and to brush grounds from the chute area. Do not wedge a tall tool rack between grinder and machine if it forces the portafilter to travel around the rack.
The scale may serve both dosing and brew yield. Store it flat where it can move to the drip tray without passing beneath a dripping pitcher. If the grinder doses directly into the portafilter, keep the support and funnel at that handoff point rather than in a display caddy on the far side.
Protect the milk side
The Bambino Plus manual shows machine-specific milk and cleaning actions; the basic Bambino differs. Follow the manual for the exact unit. Keep the milk jug on the steam side and leave its placement/removal path open. The knock box and wet-tool return belong beyond that side or on the most direct path toward the sink.
Barista layout: organize around the fixed grinder outlet
An integrated Barista machine removes the separate grinder body, but it also fixes where beans enter and where coffee drops into the portafilter. Preserve that vertical line.

An all-in-one machine can shorten the appliance line while a narrow side rack contains small tools. Customer photo shared with permission; the machine is not presented as a confirmed Breville model.
Keep the working portafilter and dosing funnel close to the grinding cradle. The tamper belongs beside the supported tamping area unless the exact model provides a built-in or assisted tamping action. Place the scale where it can reach both the dosing point and drip tray without sitting underneath other metal tools.
Do not fill the space immediately beside the machine simply because the grinder is integrated. A milk pitcher still needs to enter the steam side, a finished cup needs a dry landing, and the drip tray must slide forward.
Preserve hopper and water access
The Barista Express support hub separates setup, extraction, milk and cleaning into distinct tasks. Perform all of them while planning the station. Add beans, remove or adjust hopper parts as directed, service the water tank, pull the drip tray and access the cleaning/storage components.
A wall shelf can hold mugs or sealed refills only after those motions remain clear. A countertop rack should sit on an outer dry edge, not behind the machine where it blocks the tank or traps grounds.
Give every supplied and added tool one status

Vertical storage works when it contains selected daily tools and leaves a usable preparation area. Customer photo shared with permission.
Keep out
The tools touched during the normal drink: working tamper, funnel if used, scale, milk pitcher and one brush. Each should return with one hand and remain outside water, steam and drip paths.
Keep in a shallow drawer
Alternate baskets, cleaning disc, small cleaning tool and dry replacement cloths. Use low dividers so the 54 mm parts do not roll underneath unrelated utensils. The espresso drawer organization guide gives the full compartment method.
Keep in secondary storage
Descaler, cleaning tablets, unopened filters, manuals and spare parts. Store them together and dry, but do not give occasional maintenance products the easiest counter position.
Protect three surfaces around either machine
Preparation surface
This is the rectangle for the portafilter, scale and tamping support. It must be continuous enough to complete a dose without balancing parts on the drip tray.

The broad working mat matters more than the number of accessories on display. Customer photo shared with permission.
Cup landing
Keep one dry position for the largest regular cup or glass. It should not double as the milk-jug drip area. On an integrated machine, this may be on the side opposite the tools; on a Bambino pair, it may sit immediately after the machine in the workflow.
Cleanup return
Place the knock box where the used portafilter exits, with a short route for the milk jug and washable parts. Keep the steam cloth within reach of the wand and give it an open drying or laundry destination. See the dedicated espresso knock-box and cleanup-zone guide.
Three compact arrangements
Bambino and grinder on one straight counter
Put the grinder at the outside, create a tamping bridge, then place the machine. Use one narrow dry-tool organizer at the outer edge if the bridge remains open. Cups can move to a wall shelf after top access is tested.
Bambino under upper cabinets
Keep the grinder beside rather than behind the machine. Test tank removal and every grinder refill motion beneath the cabinet. Use a drawer for maintenance pieces and keep the front edge available for the portafilter and scale.
Barista machine on a coffee cabinet
Center the integrated machine only if both sides remain useful. One side holds the selected prep tools; the other holds milk and cup landing; the cleanup return continues toward the sink. Put refills below rather than surrounding the hopper with jars.
Run the Breville action test
With the machine off, cool or operating as required by its instructions, perform the complete physical sequence for the actual model:
- fill water and beans;
- prepare and grind the dose;
- tamp using the model's supplied or built-in process;
- lock the portafilter and place the cup;
- steam the normal quantity of milk;
- discard the puck and move wet parts toward cleaning;
- pull the drip tray and access the storage/cleaning parts;
- return every daily tool.
Mark anything moved only to make another action possible. That object needs a different home. A countertop coffee organizer is relevant when the remaining dry tools fit one measured module outside those paths.
Frequently asked questions
Does a Breville Bambino need a separate grinder station?
It needs a suitable grinder somewhere in the same workable setup unless the coffee is prepared by another chosen method. Organize the grinder, dosing transfer and tamping surface as part of the Bambino station rather than treating the narrow machine alone as the footprint.
Where should tools go beside a Barista Express?
Keep dosing and tamping tools near the fixed grinder outlet, milk tools on the steam side and wet returns on the cleanup side. Preserve top hopper access, rear water service and front drip-tray movement for the exact model.
Should I buy a 54 mm organizer before the machine arrives?
Wait until you confirm the included accessories and complete the normal drink. Then measure the selected daily tools. The organizer should fit the actual set rather than a generic online checklist.
Can mugs sit on top of a Breville machine?
Use only the surfaces and practices described for the exact model. Do not let cups interfere with controls, hopper access, ventilation, refilling or removal, and move them before any top-access task when required.
Are the Bambino and Barista station layouts interchangeable?
No. A Bambino pair needs a transfer bridge from a separate grinder. A Barista model fixes the grinding point inside the machine and reallocates the saved appliance width to prep, milk, serving and cleanup.
