V60 Filter Holder for Size 01 and 02: How to Check the Fit

One V60 filter holder may accommodate both size 01 and size 02 papers, but that does not necessarily make it a good place to keep them mixed together. Choose the holder for the papers you use, then give each size a recognizable place if both are part of your routine.

Here, “filter holder” means the organizer for unused papers, not the dripper you brew in. The useful question is not just whether a paper fits inside. It is whether you can take the right paper without sorting through the whole stack.

Read the size code before using color or pack count

HARIO sells both 01 and 02 papers in white and natural brown. A brown stack is not automatically one size, and a white stack is not automatically the other.

These details come from HARIO's 01 paper and 02 paper listings. The cup ranges describe their brewing formats; they are not paper measurements. Use the size code to keep the correct supplies together, and measure your own loose stack when checking an organizer.

Keep the original packet or a photo of its label. This is especially helpful when someone else orders refills: “the white ones” is a much less useful shopping instruction than the exact model.

Decide whether both sizes need to be out

If you use only one size, a single working stack is enough. Spare packets can stay elsewhere in the coffee cabinet rather than occupying the holder beside the brewer.

If you alternate between 01 and 02 but rarely use both on the same day, one holder can still work. Empty it before changing sizes and return the remaining papers to their matching package. Do not put the new stack in front of the old one and rely on remembering where the boundary is.

For a household that uses both sizes every day, give them separate positions. That might mean two small holders, separate compartments, or one displayed working stack with the second size in its original box nearby. Put the size label on the outside of the holder or packaging, not on the papers. Keep the positions consistent when cleaning and refilling.

Compatibility language is worth reading carefully. HARIO Canada lists its V60 Paper Filter Stand for up to 100 papers in either 01 or 02. “Either” establishes two supported sizes for that product; it does not describe two independent 100-sheet compartments. Look for an actual divider if you want two stacks to remain separate inside one organizer.

Test the larger paper and the smaller stack

Checking only the largest paper misses a different problem: smaller papers may sit too low behind a tall front panel. You want room for the larger size and a reachable edge on the smaller one.

An exposed paper edge makes the taking-out motion visible. Check that same access with each size you intend to store.

Before buying, compare the holder's usable opening with each stack separately. If you already own it, try these four conditions with clean, dry hands:

Test What you want to see If it fails
Your normal 02 supply Papers resting naturally without squeezed sides Reduce the stack if thickness is the issue; choose more usable width if the paper itself is crowded
Your normal 01 supply An edge you can grip without reaching deeply between the panels Choose a lower or more open front
Just a few papers left Papers remain reachable rather than sinking below your grip Check the base shape and the height of the front panel
One paper being removed The rest stay in order and the paper clears nearby objects Leave more room above the holder or move it forward

A listing's overall height is not enough to predict these results. A sloping support, a curved front or an open side changes where your fingers can reach. When the listing is unclear, send the seller your exact paper model and ask whether a nearly empty stack remains easy to take from.

A walnut holder in a compact V60 setup

For a coffee corner with warm wood accents, the BaristaNest Solid Black Walnut V60 Coffee Filter Paper Holder brings a small, useful piece of solid wood onto the counter. Its hand-sanded North American black walnut has visible natural grain, and its open top leaves the papers on display rather than hiding them behind a lid.

The listed dimensions are approximately 14 cm across the top, 6.5 cm deep and 9 cm high. The base is 12 cm long, and the interior slot width is 3.5 cm.

Use the outside dimensions to reserve counter space. Check the interior separately against your paper stack.

For storage planning, compare that interior slot with the thickness of your working supply, then confirm the usable span across the paper and the exposed edge. Check 01 and 02 separately if you use both. A comfortable quantity is better than filling the slot so tightly that several papers come out together.

Leave the surrounding counter simple: the holder, the brewer and enough room to lift a sheet. The dark wood can provide the visual accent without adding another sign, jar or decorative object to the same small area.

Refill without mixing the two sizes

Choose a refill routine that still works when you are distracted. Read the size code on the packet, check the label at the holder, and only then add papers. Keep new 01 papers with 01 and new 02 papers with 02—even if both stacks happen to be the same color.

If you change brands or paper ranges, keep that new supply identifiable until you have confirmed how it fits and which brewer it belongs with. A label that says only “coffee filters” does not help when several similar papers share a cabinet.

If two known sizes become mixed, empty the holder onto a clean, dry surface and compare the sheets with a confirmed paper from each packet. Sort before refilling rather than leaving a mystery layer at the back. When you cannot identify a paper confidently, keep it separate until you can check its packaging or supplier.

Finish with a one-filter check

Put the holder in its intended position and take one paper through the normal setup: select the size, lift it out and place it in the matching dripper. If you must move a mug, pull out the whole stack or guess which size you grabbed, change the storage arrangement before adding more accessories.

Our guide to storing coffee filters, scales and brewing tools covers the wider counter layout. For this purchase, keep the decision narrower: choose a coffee filter holder that supports your working stack and makes the right paper easy to recognize and reach.
